The city of Alabaster is one with a rich history dating back to 1896 with the construction of Siluria Cotton Mill Co. on Buck Creek in Siluria. The community surrounding the mill quickly began to grow, and a nearby community, known as Alabaster, was seen as "growth potential". Alabaster was eventually incorporated in 1953 and merged with Siluria in 1971.

Pictured here is the iconic Alabaster Water Tower, the symbol of the City Unlimited. Listed in the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage, the water tower serves as a reminder of our city's history.

Today, what was once Siluria Cotton Mill Co. is now the city of Alabaster's Municipal Complex in an area designated as the "Siluria Mill District." However, the 20th century water tower and a small 19th century jail remain on property in their original locations as an ode to our roots.
