Working in retail I am in constant contact with the public at large. About half of the guests that visit the store where I work where face coverings. The other half do not. However, I am starting to see more and more shoppers come in unmasked, and they are not necessarily following social distance guidelines, particularly if they have a question. While employees are required to wear masks to protect our guests, not enough is done to protect the employees. Sure, the plexiglass shields at the register are great, but we are not protected when we are moving about the store. COVID-19 numbers are not going to decline until people take the situation seriously and follow ALL precautions. If those in retail, hospitals, emergency services, etc. can wear masks for hours at a time, surely those whom we are helping can wear a mask for a few minutes.. I propose that Alabaster follow Birmingham and Jefferson County’s lead and pass a face covering ordinance.
