Welcome to the City of Alabaster Fire (AFD) Department page.


AFD is a full-time career fire department serving the City of Alabaster. Established in 1952, the department operates out of three firehouses and provides:
  • Advanced life support emergency medical care
  • Fire suppression services
  • Technical rescue services
  • A wide variety of community risk reduction programs

ISO & Accreditation

Through the hard work of our members and the unwavering support of Mayor Marty Handlon and the Alabaster City Council, the Alabaster Fire Department was awarded with an ISO Public Protection Classification Class 2 rating in 2015.

Currently, Alabaster Fire Department is pursuing fire department accreditation through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.

Personnel & Divisions

Alabaster Fire Department operates with 65 personnel within three divisions:
  • Logistics Division
  • Operations Division
  • Planning and Safety Division


The Logistics Division consists of our Executive Officer and our Training Officer. This Division focuses on ensuring AFD has all the needed resources and training to deliver high-quality services to our customers.


The Operations Division consists of three shifts of personnel delivering emergency services. Each shift operates on a platoon-type schedule and is led by a Shift Commander.

Planning & Safety

The Planning and Safety Division focuses on community risk reducing, including code enforcement, inspections, plans review, and public education.
